Old School Geek Goodies
For the past month I have been listening to an online radio station called Slay Radio which, believe it or not, plays nothing but Commodore 64 remixes. The Commodore 64 was the first computer I ever owned, THE reason I love computers, and the reason I am a computer programmer today is because of the Commodore 64!
I tune in to Slay Radio every Wednesday from about 2pm – 5pm EDT to listen to Boz’s live show. This Wednesday I decide to put in a request for one of my favorite songs being played, called Rambo Loader (Rambo’s Blue Monday Mix) by Tron. (This is just oozing geek isn’t it?!!) I was surprised to hear him say my name (atch) on the air and play my request. Download a clip of the show Here! I recommend setting your volume level to 11! It sounds awesome on headphones! Sorry for the semi-low quality of the clip. Tron who did the mix of the song has yet to make public.
UPDATE
The song is now available for download from RKO, the definative guide to C64 remixes.
Another outstanding group is Visa Roster From their website: Visa Roster is a Swedish vocal ensemble singing computer music, hymns and jazz – a cappella. In my opinion they are the most talented a cappella group I’ve ever heard! Another interesting fact about Visa Roster is listed on their CD: Beware that this CD contains singing for real. 90% of all newly produced music uses autotune, a mathematical algorithm for tuning voices with a computer to make it sound better-than-live. There are no such artificial robotic-voices on this CD, what you hear is not autotuned!
This is astounding when you listen their rendition of Armageddon Man available for download on their website.
