One of those great days
Today was one of those days that I’ll remember the rest of my life. It started out with me hoping to get some work done around the house and ended with much more than that.
Garage Siding
About 2 years ago along with some help from my brother and friends, I vinyl sided the garage. We sided 3 sides but had to leave the last side untouched because of a tree stump which was right up against the garage. After fighting with the tree stump for quite a while today my Brother and I were able to finally get it cut down low enough so that it wouldn’t interfere with the siding job. What a pain! Once we ready to side we realized that I didn’t have long enough nails and we were short siding. DOH! We ran to Home Depot and thankfully they had the same brand and color in stock. As my Brother and I were going through the box of siding he found a twenty dollar bill that some one must have lost. It was all scrunched up and buried under about 6 pieces of siding. We were stopping at Wendy’s to pick up lunch for Sister and family and my Brother paid seeing how he just found the money. Thanks Bro! Back to the house and we started the siding, finally! 40 minutes later we were done.
Front Porch
This summer with a bunch of help from friends and family, we tore out the overgrown bushes, added new support columns, and railing. Tonight my Brother and I installed some new vinyl fascia material at the top of the porch. It really made a difference. I have to buy another piece to finish it up but the hard part (trimming around the posts) is done. I haven’t decided how to finish the roof of the porch. I’m trying to avoid scraping and repainting so I might look into using some sort of pre-finished material.
Bedroom Painting
While finalizing plans this morning with my Brother, I got a call from my Sister. She said that her and their whole family were coming over and they were going to “finish painting that room!” She knows I’ve been prepping the room for weeks and dislike painting. Getting that call really made my day. They arrived and dove right into painting. I did make one big mistake by not removing the wallpaper on the one wall in the bedroom. When she painted the wall it bubbled up and was even looser than I thought. It looked pretty bad but I told them to just let that go and I’d get the paper removed this week. My brother in law said he would try to remove it and see how it goes. Before long he was really going to town, scraping, sponging, peeling, and more scraping. He not only scraped all the wallpaper off, he spackled all the cracks in the wall! All this while my Sister was still painting! If it were not for the wallpaper fiasco I bet the room would be done because they were upstairs working for over 5 hours!
Family
Having everyone over, even though we were all working, was great. The kids even seemed to have fun and were, as usual, really well behaved. I can not say Thank You enough to everyone for their help! I am extremely lucky to have such an awesome family!
Tigers
Oh and if the day wasn’t great enough…. The Tigers are headed to the World Series! Total Awesome! I so glad I got to catch a game at Commerica Park with a great friend a few weeks ago. The park is really awesome and I’m really glad the Tigers it turned around. Jim Leyland is a Perrysburg, Ohio native and we couldn’t be more proud of what he has accomplished in Detroit. Best of Luck Tigers!
Wolverines
Hooray.. Michigan wins 17-10 against Penn State! That should clinch the #2 spot behind the Buckeye’s. That will make the battle in Columbus even bigger than normal!
