A Great LAN Party
Atch is hosting the “Starcraft Training Edition”
POST PARTY UPDATE:
That…. was…. Awesome!
We (officially) started at 2:00pm Friday, June 20th and ended at 5:00am Sunday, June 22nd! By all estimates, we gamed for about 40 hours in about 2 days.
Even though we called it the Starcraft Training Edition LAN Party, turns out we played it only once. The other 70% of the time was spent playing Team Fortress 2 (Thanks Calvin!!!) and 20% playing Warcraft 3:The Frozen Throne. Many of us broke down and bought Company of Hero’s after we watched Phideux playing Thursday night. By the way, we sort of started gaming Thursday night. Unfortunately we did not a chance to play Company of Heros more than once. It is a beautiful game though.
As with every LAN party, there were some bumps in the road. The first was a strange and reoccuring problem with Harokot and Zelkin game drops or computer freezes. Harokot’s computer has been stable for months since his build, but since it was LAN party time it decided to be stupid. Zelkin’s computer would freeze up in games. This is a brand new computer, born just Monday and OS installed Wednesday so no one is quite sure what is happening with that. However it did seem to get better on the second day of the party.
Another bump in the road was when I blew a circuit breaker and took out half the party including my system. Oops! Turns out you cannot fold on 8 computers while gaming on 3 more, all of which were plugged into an extension cord. Yeah, I know, rookie mistake.
Finally, I learned I cannot stream video (or audio) without seriously impacting steam games such as Team Fortress 2. We had a reoccuring connection problem when more than about 4 people would connect to the same Internet game. Our pings would skyrocket and make the game impossible to play. So to everyone who tried to visit remotely, I apologize for not warning you the camera and audio had to be taken down.
We grilled out a couple times and I made omelets Saturday “morning”. I always enjoy cooking for people.
It was a great party! Thanks to everyone that attended. It was a blast.
