Saturn SL2 hits 200K
Well the car that I have driven since I purchased her new in 1996 has finally tipped the 200,000 mile mark! My Saturn is an amazing car. Those who know me, know that I don’t baby a car. On the contrary I “drive” the car, but I also take care of the critical maintenance which makes all the difference in the world.
I still remember that proud day when I took delivery of her from Saturn of Toledo. It wasn’t just pride in driving a Saturn though. It was pride in knowing that a United States automobile manufacture was capable of building not just a reliable automobile, but a superior one! The Saturn brand was always know for reliability, quality and value.
That tradition was carried on for many years. In fact in some ways, the Saturn brand was in part a victim of it’s own success. They quickly developed a dedicated following of proud owners who pledged their alliance with the brand. Unfortunately Saturn was unable to convince the top brass at General Motors, their parent company, that new models were necessary for their survival and continued success.
In the end, Saturn turned into a brand that was seen as outdated and trying to catch up to their earlier success.
To me my Saturn is, and will always be, a different kind of car and “different kind of car company!” And I truly think that is the best compliment to give my beloved Saturn.
As Indiana Jones says, “It isn’t the years, it’s the mileage.” And my Saturn is no exception! She is looking tired and worn. But she still runs great!
Here is a couple photos of the big moment:
And here is what she looked like many years ago:
Thank you Saturn!
